[ TESTIMONIALS ]

"Sunghee rox! You'll love her the instant you meet her. I've been singing with her for less than a year and I've improved so much. Besides the progress I've made, she is so positive she'll lift your heart or brighten your day for all the positive things she says. The songs are graceful and musical they will lighten your soul with inspirational lessons - it gives you a whole new perspective on music. Sunghee is awesome, brightening and so positive you'll have a blast and the lessons will lift up your soul."
- Barb, Toronto

I have had other vocal coaches before I met Sunghee and they were good, but Sunghees sessions are a step above to enlightening. She shares her experience and teaching wisdom and pushes you to your full potential using an energetic, wise approach. Sunghee's gentle ways taught me the techniques and stage ettiquite that gave me the confidence to sing solo on stage more than once and to keep in search of that Jazz trio as well. Sunghees lessons are priceless and will stay with you and benefit you. Thank you Sunghee. Namaste,
- Michelle, Burnaby, B.C.

"Sunghee is caring and loving, not to mention a very great person. From when I started I thought the singing thing would be a hard thing to do but after a few lessons with Sunghee she made the art of sing clearer and easier to achieve. My pitch has improved, I can find notes easier and not to mention my confidence level is much greater! Sunghee not only teaches you how to sing she shows you that singing is more to just words and noise, its about confidence in yourself, believing you can do it, meditation and finding that happiness and Joy that everyone has inside. Taking singing lessons with Sunghee has been great and also fun. I would suggest her to anyone who feels the need to want to learn how to sing!"
- Anthony, Toronto

"Sunghee has given me a voice! Sunghee's lessons emphasized proper technique, teaching us good breath control, improving tone and phrasing. Fun warm-ups relaxed us and prepared us to sing a variety of fun jazz standards and pop music, including pieces she selected to suit our personal tastes, range and style. I was too embarrassed to even sing 'Happy Birthday' before taking lessons, and now I have the confidence to sing out loud."
- Karen, Vancouver, BC

Sunghee Stepak is a phenomenal coach. Her influence is not limited to the voice lessons I opted to have with her; she is also a fantastic person with whom to share a learning experience as she will guide you through the changes intrinsically and extrinsically, helping you realize the mental and physical changes that must take place if you really want to achieve that for which you have sought her help. With a natural knack for singling out the opportunities in your learning process she is an effective and efficient educator, who uses a tender approach and genuine care, to make the hourly weekly classes something to look forward to every week. The motivation she evokes is truly magical and reciprocal to her vested interest in your success. An excellent experience.
- Rafael, Mississauga, ON

Sunghee's vocal lessons are awesome. I can hear myself improving every week. She has wonderful advice, makes you a stronger person, wonderful at teaching and she also has the patience. But most importantly I would have alot of fun and time cant pass me by any faster! Its an incredible experience !
- JoYee, Mississauga, ON

"Before taking lessons with Sunghee, I was very shy and had little confidence singing, but after only a few lessons, Sunghee helped me to discover my powerful voice within. Now I'm more comfortable and confident when singing and I can hear my voice improving each lesson. I greatly enjoy the singing lessons as Sunghee makes learning and practicing proper techniques fun and she always has something positive and uplifting to share. It's a wonderful experience and I always count the days until my next lesson!"
- Jenny-Lyn, Toronto, ON

Sunghee helps you to find more interests for Jazz piano and singing. She pays close attention for her students about what individuals really want to learn, about what they meed on their level.. and guide and lead them with a true heart... Also, her lesson is full of fun, never feel boring. you never feel that it's waste of time or money!!
-Nicole, Vancouver, BC

A fun experience that will be remembered for a life time, singing with Sunghee gives you the power and knowledge of using your voice. Hop on the plane and look forward to a warm and kind trip to her. Sunghee will teach you the ways of Jazz, Pop, R&B, and anything else she has to offer on your trip to singing. Have a safe trip and enjoy!
- Sol, Vancouver, BC

Sunghee creates a pleasant learning atmosphere. She's inspiring and supportive. I enjoy her vocal lessons as well as her piano lessons. She not only taught me the techniques but also showed me the rich flavour that music can bring to my life.
- Janet, Vancouver, BC

My wife Zhuzhu and I both really enjoyed the Group singing classes with Sunghee. She is an exceptional Singer/Pianist who is very dedicated to her craft and her students. Through her vocal exercises, song choice and personal attention to each student, Sunghee is able to bring out the music in each of us. I highly recommend anyone of any ability, who loves to sing, to join in on a Group or Private lesson with Sunghee!
- Rob & Zhuzhu, Vancouver, BC

Sunghee, you have been my inspiration not only to music but the kindness you have shown me will help me grow into a better person. BULLS ON PARADE

Extremely experienced Drummer
passionately seeking to form a RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
tribute band..and take it around the World to the masses

a band that RAGE would be proud of

trust me this will work if we all have the same vision

eventually if possible leading to originals in the same
style as RAGE and heavier

many big name bands started out as that ugly word.."cover bands"
and then take it to the next level..our own level..that's the Master Plan here

no posers or hobbyists or part timers..Music is my passion and too important to me do it half assed

this is an all out assault on bringing some of the greatest music to the masses

the people of the sun

I've got the set up..got the tunes down

the ones we don't..we will work on them together as a Brotherhood

just need you to be apart of the Revolution

I have rehearsal space and access to other ones

would be willing to travel between here and Toronto
to rehearse..in case band members are outside of Hamilton

lets jam&jam and get the music down as perfect as we can
then add our own flavor to it

have a wild in your face stage show with the Star Banner..
or any of the pics to the right
blow the rest of the bands out there out of this F**KING PLANET

BULLS ON PARADE..would be a perfect band name I think

summer is creeping up on us and now is the time

do festivals would be best..but just play LIVE anywhere we can
that is the greatest feeling

I just came off a year long recording&touring with other bands
now want to establish my own band once again..our own band

Must be Experienced and know your instrument

age is NOT really important

but at least 20 to mid 20's & up

I'm in my 30's

we need a HIGH ENERGY singer of course

down and Groovy Bassist player

and a Experimental Guitarist..if you know RAGE you know what I am talking about

best to email me first to set up a time to talk in more detail

Sing - Unleash Your UNIQUE Voice - Eliminate throat tension and bad habits

This is probably the most important series of voice articles you will ever read. Let’s face it, there is far more mis-information available about the voice then there is correct information. This series of articles will give you a big picture view of the voice and what goes into developing your full and unique voice.
I just want to be able to sing! I hear those words every day. We have a deep desire to sing, express ourselves and yes, even sing well enough to be proud of our voice. Sometimes we want to sing for ourselves while other times we have a desire to share our music with others and possibly even perform.

Without a doubt learning how to sing is a labor of love. It raises our spirits, challenges us, opens us up to new possibilities of what we can do creatively and often drives us absolutely crazy.

Clearly you need to do the right things for your specific voice type. There are differences between the male and female voice. There are differences between Bass, Baritone and Tenor for men and Alto, Mezzo Soprano, Soprano and Whistle Register for women. These things are rarely if ever taken into consideration when doing the very things you need to do to get your voice where you want it. Regardless of how much, how little, or to what caliber you choose to develop your voice everything, yes I said everything, needs to be modified for the unique and individual qualities of your voice. With all these different variables it’s no wonder we don’t progress the way we want to or worse, do things that cause throat strain or make us sound less pleasing then we would like to. Do you ever want to sing a song and find you psych yourself out and just can’t do it the way you know you want to? That is probably because you don’t have the right information or tools to get the job done. Partial information will get part of the job done while mis-information will cause voice problems and keep you from making progress. Yikes!!! Let me shed a little light on things.

We want to develop the vocal instrument to match the passion we have inside.

There are three separate components to voice. I will give you a snapshot of each component allowing you to see the complete vision of voice.

The components are:

Component I - Technique
Component II - Voice Styles
Component III – Music Genres

TECHNIQUE: These include your mental thoughts while singing, correct posture, breath, tone production (which includes intonation, vocal cord adjustments, strength and conditioning of singing muscles), vocal cord adjustments, understanding chest and head registers, resonant sound, and creative expression used to create your distinct voice.

VOICE STYLES: These include Speech (similar methods include SLS Speech Level Singing and Spoken Level Singing), Falsetto, Cry, Twang, Belt and Opera (Opera is a classical method and not suitable for contemporary / modern music. It is often used for musical theatre when a classical and formal sound is desired). Often people focus on learning one or two of these styles. While learning anything about the voice is helpful you will likely want an understanding of all Voice Style.

GENRES: This is where the sky is the limit. You have your most commonly known genres such as Pop, Blues, Country, Jazz, Electronic, Folk, Heavy Metal, Reggae and Classical but there are many other genres founded in the roots of these genres that go into forming your personal musical tastes and unique sound.

Your full voice is grounded in proper vocal technique. No singer can sing effectively without it. On the other hand, your UNIQUE voice is created by utilizing proper vocal technique and combining different voice styles to achieve a sound that matches the vision you have for your song. The combination of both gives you the tools to sing any genre you desire.

You will get to where you want your voice to go one step at a time. I know you can do it!

Singer needed!

Seriously serious signer needed for original material. Mid 20's - 30 years of age preferred. First and foremost...a strong passion for music is a MUST! If you're in it solely for free booze and slutty chicks, please disregard this post.

Live experience is also a must; we need to wow the crowds with our combined live competence! This is a serious endeavor pointing towards making music an everyday, professional career. Time is of essence, and we're not getting any prettier or younger.

Below is a link to SOME of the proposed material. Although I am not a singer by trade, the singing was attempted by myself. I couldn't physically attain what I hear in my noggin; what I hear is a mixture of Brandon Boyd, Scott Weiland, Lajon Witherspoon, Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl etc. But needless to say, your voice should be original enough to be recognized and stand out on its own. Any type of audio/video you may have of yourself doing your thing would be an advantage. If you don't, but then again seem confident and eager enough to be heard singing one on one with a dude and his acoustic guitar, there'll be an audition in your near future!

Enough said...please check out the songs, if you like them enough to call them your own and see yourself giving them more life with your impeccable pipes , please contact me through this posting.

GUITARIST SEEKS MUSICIANS FOR NEW BAND -
DRUMMER / BASSIST / KEYS / FEMALE VOCALS

hi there...

i'm sorry if this ad is a bit (or really) long, but i want to be as clear as possible as far as what I'm looking for and what I'm all about, so as to not waste my time or yours... i'll try to keep it brief...

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
my name is chris... my main instrument is guitar... i also play drums, trumpet, a little piano, and i am recording engineer (with his own gear) and producer, and have some experience doing live sound... i'm also an adequate but not outstanding singer...

mainly i would say that my influences are on the more artistic side of rock and roll... to me rock and roll can really include just about any style of music, and my influences are similarly varied... there isn't any particular style of music i don't like, but of course there are bad and lame examples of anything... i could make a list of about a million bands, albums, and songs that i'm into, but i'll try to keep it to the bare minimum and hopefully you'll be able to extrapolate what i'm talking about...

my favorite artist is frank zappa... mainly what i like about frank is his insistance on playing any kind of music at any time for whatever reason, and his outlook on lyrical content and artistic presentation... what Frank does, in a non-musical way i guess, is very close to my roots as a high-school kid playing drums in punk bands in the 90's...

some more of my favorite bands include (but not limited to): steely dan, the beatles, hendrix, black sabbath, led zeppelin, queen, nirvana, metallica, nofx, smashing pumpkins, pantera... the style of music that these bands play really has nothing to do with it... i just like how these bands approach what they do... there are alot of other bands that play alot of other different styles... i like rock, country, blues, metal, rap, pop, electronic music, classical, soul, easy listening, jazz, funk, disco... you name it, there's something about it that i like...

my whole motivation for STARTING a band as opposed to trying to find a band to join is that because i like all these different styles of music, i find it very hard to be happy in a band that only plays one style of music... alot of my friends are into punk rock and metal and hardcore, which i like, but i can't stand playing that kind of stuff all the time... also, my outlook and reason for playing any type of music is somewhat different than most people... to use the punk/metal/hardcore example again, i find that people that play that kind of music have a certain seriousness about themselves that i don't share... there's alot of posturing involved in playing that kind of music... but to me, it's just another color on my musical pallet to use... sometimes i want to do it seriously and sometimes i want to make fun of it... either way, you have to be able to play it well to get your point across... i find that the people that can play heavy music well, for example, are not interested in playing other kinds of music, for whatever reason (maybe they feel stupid or maybe they don't think they have the chops, i don't know)... and people that play blues or country don't want to play metal... i need people that not only can play it all but also WANT to play all these different styles of music...

another big reason why i'm looking for people to start a band as opposed to joining one is that, as much as i would like this band to ultimately be an original band, i also enjoy playing cover songs, and really it is part of my whole artistic outlook to play cover songs... i don't agree that a band that plays covers is necessarily less artistically legitimate than a band that does original material exclusively... another big reason why i want to play cover songs is that i've seen so many bands get ripped apart because of lack of finances... where i come from (northern ontario), bands travel for hours to play for gas money... it's even worse in toronto where alot of original bands pay to play... since i enjoy playing cover songs anyway, i don't see any reason why we can't play cover songs in some shitty dive for $500 a night or play a wedding or something, especially while we're on tour playing our original music... just makes being in a band alot easier financially, and playing anything different certainly helps build musical chops...

basically what it comes down to is that i am trying to start this band so that i can play the kind of music that i want to play, as opposed to supporting somebody else's outlook anymore... i've done that alot and i just don't enjoy it anymore... i'm hesitant to say that i want to be "the boss" and the only person who has a say in anything, because that obviously scares people away, but if you don't share my outlook on these things, i'll either ask you to quit, or i'll break up the band... i don't want to be involved with people who think they're too good to play this or that... i appreciate and encourage suggestions of any kind, but ultimately, like i said, i'm starting this band to do music the way that i want to do it, not somebody else... if you feel that your outlook on things is too important to be ignored from time to time, then i would suggest that you do what i'm doing and try to start your own band... this one is for me...

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
basically, i need a drummer and a bass player just to be able to start working... ideally, the core of the band will be me on guitar, a drummer, a bassist, a keyboardist and probably a female vocalist... some other people that do some other different things will also probably drift in and out of the band, so if you're a shredding guitar player or a lap steel player or a horn player or a violinist or whatever, don't hesitate to get a hold of me (i can't guarantee that you'll be "in the band", but there are certainly instances where i could use some different people)... also, don't be surprised and/or insulted if you're not the only person that does what you do that i work with... everybody brings something different and i'm not against using what i need when i need it... for example, i have a friend who is a very technique based drummer, but he lacks some things in the "feeling" department... there have been times when i've played the drums on a track or used another drummer because i think, despite the fact that he is actually a "better" drummer, he wasn't the better drummer for that track... you might be the right guy for one gig and not another... also, it makes me very paranoid to rely on any one person... i've always said that the worst thing about playing music is the people that you have to rely on... it would give me some piece of mind to have a few different people who can pull off a job for me, at least until i get the impression that you are as enthusiastic about what i'm doing as i am...

i won't get into specifics as far as what i'm looking for as far as style and all that... i really just want to see what's out there and go from there...

i do, however, want to make a few things clear as far as some non-musical things i'm looking for or not looking for... anybody that is in this band has to have a very open mind and have a good sense of humor... a sick, warped sense of humor like mine would be even better :) i'm not interested in being involved with self-righteous morality whores... also, since musicians are known for this sort of thing, my stance on drugs and alcohol is as follows: i'm not your father, i'm not going to tell you what you can and can't do, i'm not going to proclaim some sort of rule against doing this or that, but the second your indulgences get in the way of me being able to do what i want to do, you're out... like, i'll kick you out of the band in the middle of a song kind of thing... i might throw my guitar at you :) ok, but seriously, just try to keep it together... i myself am a relatively frequent drinker and, these days, an occasional marijuana user (i used to be worse), so far be it from me to judge anybody, but like i said, you have to be able to pull off your part in all this... i'm going to go out of my way to make sure my own habits don't get in the way, please do the same...

also, i'm not looking for anybody to fit into any particular "profile" to be in this band... i don't care how old you are, i don't care what color your skin is, or what your last name is, or whether you're a guy or a girl (i want a female singer only because i want to do some songs that a female would sing, like some motown stuff and some country, and also because of the typically higher vocal range), or if you're gay or straight, or if you used to be a man, or if you're a cop, or if you're ugly or beautiful or skinny or fat... i just want people that can play and want to be in this band and aren't going to bring baggage and problems to the band...

one thing i see mentioned in alot of these ads is the issues of jam spaces, gear and transportation, so here's my outlook... number one, at least at first, we're going to have to rely on hourly rehearsal studios (which i will pay for, i guess), unless somebody has a better situation... i live in brampton and i don't have a car, so i'll be taking transit which necessitates that i travel light, so the whole hourly rehearsal thing actually kinda works out for me... i don't care if you have a car as long as you can get to wherever we need to be... if and when we play a gig or get our own space or play in some other situation where the gear is not provided, you will be ultimately responsible for getting yourself and your gear there... i do have some options in that instance for my own self and gear, and i will try to help whenever i can, but don't count on it... as far as gear goes, i don't care if you have "pro gear"... i don't care what it looks like or what brand it is, as long as it works 100% of the time and sounds good...

so anyway, if you are a DRUMMER, a BASSIST, a KEYBOARDIST, or a FEMALE VOCALIST, and you think that you would like to come along with me in the direction i am trying to head, then please contact me... also, like i said, if you play any other sort of instrument, i welcome an opportunity to hear you play and see if we can't use you here and there...

i am very serious about this and i haven't played in quite some time so i'm eager to get started as soon as possible... i look forward to hearing from you...

thank you,
chris

Hello guitarists

We are a working rock cover band planning to play all over the city. I am 36 year old guitarist and lead singer who has gigged for the last 10 years. The drummer is 40 and played with a fairly successful original band. The bass player is also 40 has played tons as well, is a singer does backups and occasionally sings lead.

We have booked our first gig and we have contacts. We need a Lead rock guitarist. We play zeppelin, the cult, the hip, the stones. We want to do some funk to get people dancing at shows you know the drill.

nice to have: It would be great if you can sing or play other instruments ie keys/ukalele :) But not essential.

Thanks so much
Gil

Sing High Notes with Modern Technique Not Outdated Classical Methods

posted: November 9, 2009, 06:31 PM

Replydonnavocalcoach@yahoo.ca

Most singers cannot hit high notes because of in imbalance in their voices. They develop their low register but not the high register leaving a noticeable breaking point. Their high notes are soft/airy and and the singer needs to push to be heard. Pushing causes tightness and strain when singing causing even more problems. If that sounds like you keep reading.

Singers believe a pitch is something to be reached or hit. While “reach” and “hit” is terminology used to direct a singer to sing a specific note, it is not what we actually do to produce the higher tone. The higher you sing within your range, the more difficult you perceive it to be. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Singers hit high notes incorrectly because high notes are traditionally done by opera singers. These classical approaches to singing works great for opera but will not work for modern music of today. You need current technique so you don't sound classical. I can help!

Hello and Thank you for your interest in my ad:
I am a Toronto Singer/Songwriter looking for a female vocalist to form a pop/folk act. I want to perform at small night clubs, restaurants and community events. I play acoustic guitar. My influences include: Sarah McLachlan. Jann Arden, Amanda Marshall and The Beatles.
I also have a recording studio and wish to record original material with the act. The vocalist must be able to sing harmonies and be willing to perform originals. I also am working on independent music videos and want a vocalist who would like to act and appear in them too. You must also want to have fun and be excited about performing music. If interested, please submit a brief outline of your experience and a picture. If you have a website with your music, send me a link.
