Pro funky drummer available

Solid groove-oriented, professional drummer available. You can check out my playing at www.bandmix.ca/toronto-drummer

I am available for gigging, touring, and recording.

I have played almost all the major clubs in TO, including The Phoenix, Lee’s, Horseshoe, Rivoli, Revival, and others. I have done dinner jazz, big band jazz shows, corporate parties, weddings, festival gigs, TV appearances, and tours. I have been a session drummer on rock, metal, pop, and other recording projects.

I show up prepared and I try to play the gig the way you want it (louder/softer, busier/more sparse, sticks/brushes/mallets, etc.) Clicks, improvisation, charts, odd time signatures are all no problem.

I have professional acoustic and electronic drum kits to suit any performance situation. And a reliable car to get me to gigs.

I am based in the east GTA and will rehearse as far east as Oshawa and as far west as about Parkdale in Toronto.

I'll happily do all styles EXCEPT punk or metal - it's fun to listen to sometimes, but it's just not my thing as a player. However, I'm especially into anything funky.

I am looking for paying gigs only with existing professional/working artists and bands.

RUBEN DIAZ BIO

Ruben Diaz is possessed of flamenco roots that are embedded in his family. Indeed, his father, Luis Chavarría, was a student and a disciple of Andrés Segovia.

So, quite naturally, it was his farther who first introduced an eight-year-old Ruben to his icon, Paco de Lucía. Ruben’s youthful enthusiasm and relatively untutored efforts were disciplined soon thereafter when he commenced formal studies with the renowned Argentinean classical guitarist, Manuel López Ramos, from whom Ruben obtained a solid foundation in classical guitar technique. Thereafter, he became deeply involved in flamenco music and culture with the gipsy community of southern Spain which, in turn, led back to what was to become a longstanding and close association with Paco de Lucía who has been both Ruben’s example and preceptor for nearly two decades.

Drummer looking to make some magic with you

posted: November 18, 2009, 05:54 PM

Hi there,

I am 44, I know that sounds like a lot but that’s only 6.2 dog years. I have gear, a rehearsal space (my basement in Scarborough) a P.A system, transportation and a great attitude. I have been playing a long time and still really enjoy playing live, getting paid is always a bonus but not my motivation. I would love to join a band where making a great party and compelling people to have fun and move is the main theme and driving force behind our efforts. You can hear a sample of my work (the most recent original one) at www.endsville.ca . With the holiday season upon us I think that some charity gigs would be a great way to give back to the community in which we live. If this sounds like your thing and you’re are easy to be around and can hold your own with your instrument, I would love to get in touch with you. If we could gig 6-12 times a year, events more often than bars, I would be a happy camper. I would really be interested in hearing from a Cello player who would like to explore the electric side of that instrument as well as the acoustic. Lets make some magic together.

Cheers,

Singer needed!

posted: November 18, 2009, 05:35 PM

Seriously serious signer needed for original material. Mid 20's - 30 years of age preferred. First and foremost...a strong passion for music is a MUST! If you're in it solely for free booze and slutty chicks, please disregard this post.

Live experience is also a must; we need to wow the crowds with our combined live competence! This is a serious endeavor pointing towards making music an everyday, professional career. Time is of essence, and we're not getting any prettier or younger.

Below is a link to SOME of the proposed material. Although I am not a singer by trade, the singing was attempted by myself. I couldn't physically attain what I hear in my noggin; what I hear is a mixture of Brandon Boyd, Scott Weiland, Lajon Witherspoon, Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl etc. But needless to say, your voice should be original enough to be recognized and stand out on its own. Any type of audio/video you may have of yourself doing your thing would be an advantage. If you don't, but then again seem confident and eager enough to be heard singing one on one with a dude and his acoustic guitar, there'll be an audition in your near future!

Enough said...please check out the songs, if you like them enough to call them your own and see yourself giving them more life with your impeccable pipes , please contact me through this posting.

Bass Lessons (Electric and/or Acoustic)

posted: November 13, 2009, 08:33 AM

Replybret_higgins@yahoo.com

Hi, I am an experienced teacher in Toronto. I have been teaching and performing music for approximately twelve years. My principal instruments of performance are the double bass and electric bass. I love to teach people interested in expanding their ideas about music and growing as musicians. I don't have a strict agenda for teaching but I do espouse theory and traditional reading as basic values for one's musical development. I'm very open and flexible and expect students to be the same. I provide students with PC software for file sharing of teaching materials and I offer a private news group for student discussion. I am an active musician in the Toronto community.

I studied at Humber College, the University of Toronto, and studied classical music and technique through private lessons.

I am available to teach from my mid-town Toronto home.

Teaching Hours are quite flexible.

Some of my musical influences: Jazz (Miles Davis, Coltrane, Jarrett, John Zorn), Classical (Beethoven, Shostakovich), Rock (The Beatles through Radio Head and everything inbetween), Reggae (Marley, Dub) Phish, MMW, Tom Waits, Fred Frith, Electronica (Square Pusher/Aphex Twin) lots more...

Hope to hear from you.
